While the House of Gucci movie hit theaters on Thursday, the fashion world is still abuzz about the style and the intrigue surrounding one of the industry's most iconic houses.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, here are 5 things you should know:
It's Long
The film will keep you in your seat for 2 and a half hours. While each moment is action packed, it does feel a bit long (one theater goer surmised that because there are so many heavy hitters in the film, editors couldn't so liberally cut scenes). Just be prepared to settle in for a long, sometimes sordid tale.
It wasn't all Patrizia Reggiani's Fault
After watching the movie, I of course indulged in a few documentaries about the story. While the movie paints Patrizia Reggiani (played by Lady Gaga) as the mastermind behind the demise of the house, it seems the Gucci brothers and cousins had plenty of issues before she came around. The family took turns suing each other and didn't seem to get along--at all. While Patrizia certainly didn't help matters, the family separating from the business it had built seemed somewhat inevitable.
Paolo Gucci wasn't entirely untalented
According to an article in Vulture, while Paolo did want to break off and create his own Gucci line (which was later sabotaged), the creative, played by Jared Leto, did help create the brand's now ubiquitous Double G Logo.
Gucci the brand has benefited from the exposure
The story of betrayal, murder and magic has already generated $104 Million in only exposure for the Gucci name, according to Launchmetrics. And as far as I'm concerned, I purchased Gucci for the first time in a long time, thanks to the movie.
Costume Director Janty Yates had Full Access to the Gucci Archive, yet had little interaction with Alessandro Michele
In an interview with Fashion Bomb Daily, the Academy Award winning costume designer said that she had full access to the Gucci Archive, however no interaction with Gucci's current creative director Alessandro Michele, who has seemed to re-release some archival pieces in tandem with the movie.
