hen I first launched my blog Fashion Bomb Daily in 2006, Baby Phat was absolutely everything. Kimora Lee Simmons was the embodiment of all things fabulous, and her Baby Phat fashion shows were the crown jewel of Fashion Week (I made a name for myself being one of the first bloggers to ever cover Fashion Week, and the Baby Phat show was the highlight). One of the brand's signatures was for Kimora Lee Simmons to take her take her final walk down the runway with her adorable daughters Ming and Aoki Lee Simmons.
15 years later, and the girls are all grown up. Aoki is a junior at Harvard University, and Ming is a budding entrepreneur studying at NYU. Gone are their girly frocks, bows, and hard bottom shoes. The sisters sizzled while standing shoulder to shoulder with their mom, with the trio splashed in leopard with black lace and leather accents. Baby Phat is all grown up.
The holiday capsule is extremely nostalgic. The ubiquitous cat is still on velour track suits, cropped tees, and hoodie dresses, along with monogram denim jackets, puffer coats, and jersey dresses.
Brand devotees can hop on the Cat Earrings, Baby Phat logo belts, and sparkling boots.
Kimora shed tears at the outpouring of support. Fans and friends packed Cucina 8 1/2 to toast to the new collection and the holidays.
In a statement, Simmons told WWD, "This holiday capsule is a full-circle moment for me as an entrepreneur and creative director. Macy’s has been a key partner of mine almost from the beginning and has witnessed Baby Phat’s journey. The coolest thing about our company’s evolution is that it’s become really authentically multigenerational — not only in its leadership now that [daughters] Ming and Aoki are adult women who have joined me in running the brand — but our fan base in now multigenerational, too, with a whole new band of girls chasing and reimagining the early ’00s look.”
